The 8th Annual Stars on Broadway fundraiser for the SSMI Endowment in Memory of Sr. Amelia Kuska is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2009. This year's event will be scaled down due to economic conditions & possible changes in the Sister's mission in the coming months. The event will still include an ethnic dinner & live music. There will be door prizes, a wheelbarrow of "spirits" raffle and the ever popular gift bags. A limited number of the past's most popular silent auction items will be available for bids. Invitations will be going out in July, but mark your calendars now!!!
Come and show your appreciation of the Sisters for all their past and present good works.
Once again this Holy Saturday the Sisters provided Easter dinners to those unable to provide a holiday feast for themselves. Over 60 meals were distributed to those less fortunate. The meals were blessed by Father Walter Jenne at the luncheon provided by the Sisters. Advisory board members attending the luncheon assisted in packing up the meals and delivering them to those in need. This service has been one of the Sister's longest lasting traditions and most rewarding for all those involved.
A bilingual Mass with Anointing of the Sick for the elderly and homebound was celebrated on Sunday, March 22, 2008. Over 100 clients, friends & supporters joined the Sisters at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. All enjoyed the coffee, refreshments and raffles after the Mass. This bi-yearly Mass is one of the Sisters ways of assisting the elderly and infirm to enjoy an afternoon of social interaction.
The Sisters assisted over 200 clients in 2008. Whether it's a reassuring phone call, help translating a doctor's orders, picking up necessities at the grocery store or an emergency food delivery, many elderly couldn't survive without the Sister'care.
